Common questions in Okazaki

About our calligraphy classes in Okazaki

Where in Okazaki are the classrooms?

In 竜美ヶ丘 (Tatsumigaoka); 矢作 (Yahagi) — the 宇頭 (Uto) classroom; 大樹寺 (Daijuji); the south of the city — the 上地 (Ueji) classroom; and 美合 (Miai). You can check the days and times in the list above.

Should I look for a “shuji” (calligraphy practice) class or a “shodo” (calligraphy) class?

Kodomo School’s “kakikata shodo” class teaches both pencil and brush writing. Whether you are looking for a shuji, kakikata or shodo class, the same classroom covers all of them.

Can my child take soroban as well?

Yes. 竜美南 (Tatsumi-minami), 宇頭 (Uto) and 美合 (Miai) also hold soroban classes at the same venue on different days of the week.

Calligraphy at Kodomo School

The power to write is the power to think.

Correct posture and stroke order, and tome, hane and harai (the stops, hooks and sweeps of each stroke). Children learn both brush writing and pencil handwriting, and the time spent carefully studying the model builds neat handwriting and a calm mind. They can also work on their school handwriting assignments. Brush-writing grade exams (kyu and dan) can be taken at the classroom they usually attend (there are no exams for pencil handwriting).
