Book introduction
A book by our principal
「親子で育てる自己肯定感 わくわく家族ノート」
(“Growing Self-Esteem Together, Parent and Child: The Wakuwaku Family Notebook,” Japanese title)

In busy daily life, many parents think, “I said it too harshly again,” or “I don’t know how to deal with this.” 『親子で育てる自己肯定感 ― わくわく家族ノート』 is a book that stays close to parents who have these feelings.
The guide of the story is Wakuma, a teddy bear who quietly appears close to the hearts of the family.
A morning when you got angry. An evening when you felt down. A night with feelings you could not put into words.
In those moments, Wakuma gently asks:
“Hey, how are you feeling right now?”
With that one question, a small “light of awareness” begins to shine in the family.
- Mom: notices the “worry” hidden beneath her anger
- そら (Sora): learns that even on days when things don’t go well, there is still something to “love”
- Dad: realizes that behind his silence were “feelings he couldn’t say”
- なな (Nana): finds the “courage” to trust the colors she feels
Simply by reading on, the feelings of both parents and children gently soften.
At the end of the book, you will also find questions from the 「わくともカード」 (“Wakutomo cards”) that the whole family can use. You can take home “conversation starters” to try at home from today.
Recommended for parents who…
- want to grow their child’s self-esteem
- tend to get angry, and then feel down about it
- want warmer conversations in the family
- want to raise their children with empathy for their feelings
- are looking for a gentle story to read together at bedtime
By the time you finish reading…
- the way you see your child’s feelings gently changes
- your own heart feels lighter, and you can think, “It’s going to be okay”
- it becomes easier to find small moments of happiness
- family conversations softly grow
Your home already holds a “seed of light.”
Wakuma is here to help you notice that light.
A book that makes everyday life for parents and children gentler and warmer.
