Message

To all parents

We live in an age when everything is expected to happen fast. Even with your child’s lessons, it is only natural to wonder, “How quickly is my child improving?” or “Are there results I can see?”

We, too, make no compromises at all in developing “visible skills,” such as soroban skills and the ability to write beautiful characters.

Taito Morita, founder & principal

1. The strengths that truly matter

We are always asking ourselves:
ten or twenty years from now, in a fast-changing society, what strengths will your child truly need to live with resilience — and with a smile?

  • A heart that can believe “I can do it,” whatever the difficulty.
  • Self-esteem — the feeling that “I am fine just as I am,” instead of feeling down by comparing oneself with others.
  • And the joy of making someone happy through one’s own strength, never forgetting to be grateful to the people around us.

We believe that these “invisible strengths” are the very foundation of happiness that supports a whole life.

2. Time to grow the “roots of the heart”

Time spent moving the soroban beads one by one.
Time spent facing a model and writing each stroke with care.

This is not just skill practice. It is precious time in which children quietly face their own hearts and build up small successes — “I did it!” — one after another.

Little by little, these successes grow firm roots in your child’s heart: a steady “sense of self” (in Japanese, jibun-jiku, “one’s own axis”) that does not waver.

A tree’s roots cannot be seen.
But a tree with deep, wide roots does not fall in any wind,
and it bears beautiful flowers and fruit.

3. What Kodomo School aims for

Kodomo School is a place that grows these “roots of the heart.”

While celebrating visible progress together, we keep our eyes on your child’s future beyond it, and nourish each child’s heart.

It may take a little time before results appear.
But we teach every day with a sense of responsibility for your child’s future, ten and twenty years from now.

4. Nurturing your child’s future, together

We sincerely hope to nurture your child’s future together with all of you who share these thoughts.

Start with a free trial lesson

Soroban and calligraphy trial lessons are free (about 20 minutes; just bring something to write with). The art trial lesson is 40 minutes and costs ¥1,000 (nothing to bring). Come with your child and see the feel of the classroom and how well the teacher suits your child.
