Meaning

What means

A Japanese saying, read fukutsu no seishin.

LiterallySpirit of not bending.

不屈 means never giving in, however hard things get. 不屈の精神 is a strong heart that gets back up no matter how many times it fails.

The hiragana の joins the two words, much like "of" in English.

When people write it in Japan. It suits a piece about facing something hard, or a big goal, with the resolve never to give up.

How to write it

Brush tips for

Semi-cursive script (gyōsho)

  1. In the 月 at the lower right of 精, the two inner horizontals are linked by a thin line, written in one stroke that folds back.
  2. Write the four kanji large and the hiragana の a little smaller and rounded. This keeps all five characters in good balance.
  3. The right vertical of 神 is the longest stroke in this piece. Bring it straight down, letting it get thinner toward the bottom, and lift off.

Stroke order

Follow the vermilion stroke, frame by frame. Shown in regular script. Semi-cursive follows the same order, with strokes joined.
