What 感謝 means
The Japanese word for gratitude, written with 2 kanji and read kansha.
感謝 is the feeling behind the words "thank you." It names gratitude itself and sounds a little more formal than a simple spoken thanks.
When people write it in Japan. People in Japan write 感謝 for a piece that looks back on the year, or for kakizome, the first calligraphy of the New Year.
Japanese children know every kanji here by 5th grade.

Brush tips for 感謝
Three things to watch
- Make the upper part of 感 wide. The 7th stroke, the slanting curved stroke, stretches down to the right and flicks up.
- Write 心 (heart) at the bottom of 感 a little smaller than the upper part, and center it.
- 謝 has 17 strokes. Its three parts, the speech radical (gonben), 身 and 寸, stand side by side, so keep each one slim.
Stroke order
Follow the vermilion stroke, frame by frame.
